Description

The walking tour starts at the Tourist Information Center (1 Rayko Daskalov str.) where you receive the necessary equipment in order to fully enjoy the city tour – an Audioguide device, a map and 3 entrance tickets. 

You will have the opportunity to view Plovdiv’s famous Ancient Roman Theater, as well as Bulgarian Revival Period house-museums, among which are the Klianty house, Lamartine’s and Balabanov‘s house, the Roman Stadium and some amazing vestiges of the Roman Empire, among which are the East Gate and the Forum. 

The 3 tickets that you receive along with your audioguide device allow you to visit the two candidates for UNESCO’s List of Global Cultural Heritage – the Small Basilica, where you will discover a beautiful roman mosaic, representing ancient Christian symbols, and the Trakart Museum. Trakart houses and exhibition of Roman floor mosaics and a unique collection of ancient ceramics, glass and marble. The represented glasswork technique is named “Millefiori” and its characteristic decoration of “detail in the detail of the detail”. The exhibition was collected from Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria, and is extremely rare in Europe.  The third ticket is for the unique Armenian Church Museum, where you can see the nail that was nailed over the head of Jesus on the Crucifix and along with piece of the wooden board with the Latin abbreviation “INRI” (which translates to Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews). What is more, according to experts, the museum possesses one of the richest collections of historical Armenian artifacts in the world. 

The proposed itinerary is circular and seems to be the most convenient in order to see all the sights, but you can feel free the rearrange it to your taste, because you decide when and which audio recordings to listen to. You’ll be able to learn about the history of Plovdiv from recordings of certified guides and historians with more than 30 years of experience in the field. The tour takes 3 to 5 hours depending on your pace.

If you wish, you can sit down for coffee or lunch at the Paldin restaurant and receive a 15% discount. This restaurant is renowned for its delicious cuisine and authentic traditional atmosphere, and is the only place in Plovdiv where you can learn about the Dervish tradition.
